This job will require 90% overnight travel.

Position Description Leads crews responsible for performing statewide roadway striping, transportation maintenance and emergency response work. Work involves extensive travel across the state of Texas. Reports to the Maintenance Regional Crew Branch Manager. Works with districts and law enforcement. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties: - Inspects completed projects for correct length of passing lanes, quality of work, etc.
- Inspects roads for future striping needs and marks roads for passing and no passing zones.
- Operates light and heavy equipment.
- Provides direction to crew members in execution of assignments, to include emergency response efforts; and certifies crew timesheet accuracy before submission for entry.
- Travels to work assignments and evaluates materials and equipment needed for maintenance work or emergency response.
- Coordinates crew coverage for roadway striping or general transportation maintenance assignments with branch manager.
- Oversees application of paint and thermoplastic pavement markings.
- Leads and trains crew member and district staff on equipment use, material application, etc.
- Ensures safe work environment in compliance with safety policies and procedures using appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education : High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience : 5 years roadway maintenance, roadway striping, highway construction or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications : Must have a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire . This position requires driving a state vehicle and heavy equipment.
Competencies: Extensive knowledge of:
- Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
- The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
Expert skill in:
- Scheduling work assignments
- Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
- Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment
- Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
- Operating light and heavy highway equipment
Proficient skill in:
- Use of personal computers
Other Attributes:
- Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals

- Must be able to report for duty within 120 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
